Jonathan’s desire was to choose a career that his parents would be proud of. He had the utmost respect for them. Throughout his childhood, they showed him that family was the most important part of life. He wanted that ideal family life for himself when the time was right. Emmylou had most of the same passions in life that Jonathan had. She was a career minded female even before high school. She loved her childhood and wanted the same in the near future, but ever since she was younger, she felt she needed more.
The future held a very different outlook for the relationship of two people so much in love. Career paths lead them to a totally different environment. They anticipated their relocation would become fruitful for their family, but what they didn’t realize was the chaos down the road to wedding bliss with many disturbances along the way.
Jonathan’s good friend, whom he met when he was much younger, got caught up in the vengeance from his error in judgement from the past, resulting in horrible circumstances, which put his friend in the wrong place at the wrong time. Jonathan’s remorseful feelings triggered an act of vengeance of his own. His heart felt so much pain for his good friend that didn’t deserve the unremorseful actions of a vindictive stranger.
Secrets have always damaged the happiness and future that could have been prevented by being a wiser and truthful party of a union. Unfaithfulness is a dead end to happiness. If one doesn’t believe in themselves, they could get caught up in lies and deceitfulness.
Forgiveness could lead a path around the corner that could possibly remove the damage that had already been done. Actions always speak louder than words, but Jonathan did not know how to show any positive actions that Emmylou needed. His ability to show them felt useless at times, which created more space between them. Giving up was standing at his back door, coaxing him to go through.
Distance apart and hopeful feelings normally mended a broken heart, but sometimes it can also backfire if someone isn’t in it for the long haul and is not careful with the delicate feelings of the other. To mend fences and regain what they once had for each other; it will take a lot of work and diligence between them. If one is not careful and loses his way, everything can come crashing down in a minute. Too much lost time always creates more problems that might not be as forgiving.
Jonathan did not have enough trust in himself, how could he believe that he could truly make anyone else happy if he didn’t have happiness within himself. Making mistakes after mistakes was not going to win the love of his soulmate, once the damage was done, it became a difficult road to travel back to.
